reStore Costa Mesa Recovery Team

Spearheaded by Mayor Katrina Foley, the Costa Mesa City Council has enlisted corporate, labor and government leaders to form a new reStore Costa Mesa Recovery Team with the goal of jump starting the local economy once restrictions are lifted.

We have recruited a star-studded team of professionals to guide us and allow us to move quickly once we are able to and move into a recovery period. I’m grateful for the dedication of these community leaders who will help us get out of this crisis with a safety-first approach.”

Members of the reStore team include tourism leaders and notables such as former State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, local restaurateurs Ivan Calderon, Mario Marovic, and Mark McDonald, auto executive Jim Robbins and longtime developer George Sakioka, as well as Casey Reitz, President of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and leadership from Mesa Verde Country Club.

Costa Mesa's BAC

Costa Mesa’s Business Assistance Collaborative (BAC) is a program initiated by the City of Costa Mesa in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, Travel Costa Mesa, and South Coast Metro Alliance to assist the community of businesses in Costa Mesa as we all traverse the adverse economic impacts many businesses are experiencing during the active safety measures taken in response to COVID-19.
Costa Mesa’s BAC is seeking to provide support for businesses through sharing data and resources, mobilizing our local patronage through a Shop Costa Mesa campaign, seeking input from the business community through a proactive call center, and providing a watering hole for all businesses and patrons. This will establish a structure that mobilizes all participants in the economy and support future programs that may need to be initiated for a prosperous economy.

Shop Costa Mesa Champions

During this unprecedented time for consumers and businesses alike, the City of Costa Mesa wants to support the local businesses by ensuring that community members know when and how to engage local businesses. To this end, the City has organized a core of volunteer “Champions” to support the Costa Mesa business community through the social media campaign #reStoreCM. The enthusiastic participation of local Champions selected by City Councilmembers is key to a safe and orderly reopening and recovery from the pandemic. The local Champions have been tasked with raising awareness and encouraging the support of local businesses (big and small) in Costa Mesa. Whether using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media platform, the Champions will broadcast stories of business successes, compliance, and resilience. The first wave of Shop Costa Mesa Champions were trained and activated in mid-May.

Proactive Call Center Team

To ensure that the City develops policies, programs, and plans that can help businesses survive and transition smoothly to each phase and to be ready to act quickly when the community is able to settle into a longer term solution, Costa Mesa’s BAC is gathering operational information about local Costa Mesa businesses. To this end, the City has launched a Call Center, effective May 21, which is intended to gather COVID-19- related business data. This information will be available in an easy to use fashion for all Shop Costa Mesa enthusiasts to access. Furthermore, through this outreach, Costa Mesa’s BAC is collecting information regarding how COVID-19 closures have impacted local businesses and how successful Federal, State, Regional, and Local policies or programs have been in softening the adverse impacts of these closures. This significant outreach effort will help Costa Mesa’s BAC to inform leadership with accurate local input and will help Costa Mesa businesses get the help that many so desperately need.
